Playing for Money: Kyle Rybicki- Trying to Turn the Draw into a Fade

By Wayne | Videos

While there is nothing wrong with a draw, having only a draw in the bag that sometimes turns into an over-draw that ends up left of the target is not a recipe for success, especially for someone with high ball speed like Kyle.  Kyle told me right off the bat that he was missing left and wanted to know why he couldn’t a decent fade no matter how he tried.  Watching the swing in slow motion I could see that the club was behind his hands at P6, which makes it quite hard to start the ball left and move it from left to right.  I could see that Kyle’s posture was a factor in the club falling behind him, and after he cleaned it up, he felt more athletic (ready and out on the balls of the feet) and had more room in general for his arms.  We then discussed face and path and how we needed to get the path left of target with the face left also, but less left than the body lines.  Kyle, being an excellent player, was able to open his stance and face and swing on plane to where his body was aiming and hit a nice left to right shot.  We then took that feeling (he felt more over the top) to a square stance and that turned into a nice straighter ball flight.  With the advantage of physical strength and great equipment (clubs and balls) I’m starting to think that the draw biased swing will be a thing of the past.
