I really think you are going to enjoy this video, as it takes Jeremy’s swing from the first time I met him at the end of 2010 to the present moment and showcases the changes he has made to produce what I think anyone would call a great golf swing. There are many components to procuring a spot at the highest levels of competitive golf, and certainly one of them is a solid, sound swing that produces shots that engender the confidence that is so necessary when the pressure is on. Jeremy has built this swing pretty much up from the ground, and thus I feel he now “owns” it and will be able to self-correct on the golf course when he needs to. I regard myself as an educator as well as an instructor, and I really want my students to understand the ins and outs of why I am telling them what they need to do to hit the ball better. Jeremy could easily teach the components of his swing to other players (not that he would want to do that) and the fact that he is still quite young and a very strong hitter give him the opportunity to be an excellent player. It hasn’t gone smoothly all the time (it never does) but Jeremy has stuck with the program and has arrived at this point with what you see here. If more people would just realize that building a golf game is a long term process then more people would eventually improve.
Wayne,
What’s up? I hear it’s almost as hot up there as it is down here…too bad we have like 3 months of summer left in FL. I hope everything’s going well for you. I saw your swing updates — looking better! I filmed a few swings for you today and I’m hoping to get a good idea of what I need to do going into Q-school at the start of October. I’ll send the swings separately from my phone in the next few emails.
Hopefully you’ve gotten my updates, but my game has been trending pretty nicely since I saw you a couple months ago. Overall, I think one of the biggest issues I run into is just how poor my technique used to be. Hitting it erratically for so many years has held me back mentally at times. I’m obviously not one of these guys who just had a swing that worked from the get-go Looking at my technique now, though, I’m a totally different player than before. This has obviously taken some time to buy into but that’s up to me…
Ok, rant over…I’ve been focusing on keeping my right shoulder and upper arm from pulling behind me in the later part of my backswing and into transition. I’m also trying to make sure my lower body works 45 left instead of out towards the target. My right leg had been shooting out even more than it is now, so I’m working on cleaning that up.
In these iron swings, it looks like I lean the shaft way forward and sort of hold the face off because I’m almost coming out to in. In terms of ball flight, I’m definitely starting the ball much more on line and it’s nice to not be fighting a “stuck” feeling.
With the driver, I’m hitting if further than ever but I think I’ve still got lots of room for improvement. I was on a Flightscope the other day and here are the numbers I can remember:
Clubhead speed: 118 mph
Ball speed: 175-180 mph
Launch angle: 8 degrees
Attack angle: 1 degree up
Carry distance: 280 yards
Spin: 2500-ish
Face/path: basically 0 degrees
My driver is set at 8 or 8.5 right now. Based on these numbers and the video, it seems to me like I’m a little late and narrow with my driver release. Also, it looks like I’ve found a way to hit up on the ball but still deliver the club with less loft than I’m supposed to? Do I get a gold star for that? Let me know what you think. Feel free to do a video on me or whatever. You know I appreciate the help…I’ll be up north later this month or in September for a visit.
