Playing for Money: Jeremy Wells Part 3

I have been working with Jeremy for over 4 years now and he has developed an excellent golf swing. Jeremy is very knowledgeable about swing mechanics and he knows what he needs to work on, but he relies on me to use my experience to help him get where he wants to get. When I teach I am always thinking on my feet. Every lesson is a learning experience, and I find myself coming up with different ways to explain, rehearse, and feel the same things I may have gone over with the student any number of times. Here we see Jeremy with his right arm just a bit behind him approaching impact, and we want to focus on getting it more in front of him. Normally a player with his tendency would need more space for the arm, but in Jeremy’s case he already creates enough room for the arm to be where he wants it. So the question becomes “why is the arm behind you when it doesn’t look like it should be?” In this lesson (after I strengthen his grip, which tends to get weak) I want Jeremy to rehearse a stronger lateral drive to put more pull on the left arm, after which I want him to be more attentive to driving the upper right arm in front of his chest. We use exaggeration to try to get the feel, and then film both the rehearsals and the actual shots to compare and see if there is a difference. It is always nice to see real results at the end of the lesson, and when I compare Jeremy’s first swings of the day with the last ones I think you’ll agree it was a successful session.
