If you’ve watched Jason’s previous lessons, both online and in person, you know that he has an excellent swing but has serious problems with his takeaway. In this lesson, we see Jason rehearsing his takeaway nicely, but when it’s time to hit the ball he squeezes his arms together and pushes his left shoulder down as he hyper-extends his left arm. This in turn straightens his right arm immediately, and by the time his left arm is parallel to the ground the back of his right shoulder feels jammed up. To soften his arms and to start the swing more smoothly and more with his entire upper trunk I place a shaft just behind his clubhead so he can feel some resistance against his hands as he tries to start the swing by pushing the shaft back. This allows him to feel that his arms stay slightly bent and that the first move to start the swing is not so abrupt. You will see how this helps his swing right away.
