Playing for Money: Derrick Sherard

By Wayne | Videos: Playing For Money

Wayne D, hope all’s well up there. Been working hard the last few months to get some feel for what we’ve been working on. Watching your newest right arm video and having the “helicopter” feeling at the top has helped with the transition. I’m still having trouble keeping the bend in my right arm through impact and releasing the club back up the shaft plane after impact. All in all it is better than when we started and I’m controlling the ball much better. Thanks for everything and let me know what you think!

As you will see in the video Derrick has made tremendous strides toward improving his overall swing action. Just about everything is much better, and he has managed to do what has proven very difficult for a lot of good players to accomplish, change a vertical hands and arms drop in transition pattern to a hands out toward the ball pattern, which, as you know, is a crucial element in the way I envision a good swing. You will notice that Derrick’s punch shot swing produces a better impact than his full swing, but that is to be expected. In both cases he could get his upper right arm and elbow further forward in the forward swing so that his right arm can release more to the left and his shaft can exit more left along with it. The right arm action has improved greatly and now he can exaggerate the feeling of squeezing it in front of his right side and try to get his hands more forward at shaft parallel as he approaches impact.
