Pivot Compression Golf Swing: 35. Putting Basics

By Wayne | Videos: PCGS lesson series

There is one thing I can tell you that is for sure when it comes to putting: you better find a way to get the ball into the hole, because if you don’t you’re never going to shoot great scores, and you’re never going to be completely happy with a round of golf.

In these final two Pivot Compression Golf Swing lesson series videos I tell you and show you what I know about putting, the substance of which comes from all my playing experience as well as my teaching experience. This is what I try to do and how I try to practice what I do so that I can do it when it counts, which usually means when my heart rate is a bit higher than normal.

In the past few years there has been an explosion of information pertaining to the act of rolling the ball across the green with the putter, starting with measurements of every conceivable aspect of the stroke, then measuring the launch and roll of the ball, and finally moving to all new data regarding the reading of all types of greens. You won’t see a recounting of all this in these videos. Instead, I simply go over my thoughts and methods that have allowed me to compete at a high level in spite of my physical limitations. Feel free to try any of the stuff I talk about. Also feel free to try anything else that you think might work. But, and this is a big “but”, you would be doing yourself a favor to settle on a set of concepts and a method and practice it religiously and relentlessly. If you can roll the ball consistently and develop the ability to approach your putts with confidence bordering on cockiness you can become an excellent putter under pressure.
