Pivot Compression Golf Swing: 26. Low Pitch Shot Part 1

Here we switch clubs to produce a lower ball flight and thus a shot that carries less and rolls more. This is an advantage in situations where there is plenty of green to work with in that it requires less swing to produce the required distance, and it is almost 100% true that less swing means less chance to screw up. The technique is exactly the same as that of the 30 yard pitch, only we are using a 52 degree wedge here instead of the 58 degree. The shorter the required carry distance the shorter the swing, and we would rather be using the wrists a bit more than arm swing, although there is always a delicate combination of both in every shot. The key again is ball first contact with the leading edge hitting the ground after the ball has been struck, and depending on the turf there is likely to be a small divot forward of the ball. I rarely use a pitching wedge to hit this shot as proper technique with the 52 produces a low enough ball flight for almost all situations. Keys to remember: ball centered, slightly open stance (entire body open), slightly open clubface, swing up along foot line, swing left through the ball, be sure to use the lower body to initiate the forward swing, hold the release off in the follow through, always pick a spot to land the ball on.
