Pivot Compression Golf Swing: 21. In The Bunker Part 1

Over the years I have taught many short game “schools” with groups of golfers of all ability levels, and inevitably the area where players struggle the most is in the sand. I have a number of theories as to why this is, but suffice it to say that becoming proficient out of the bunker is entirely possible; however, it takes an extreme amount of concentration and focus on setup procedure, swing technique and proper practice, more so perhaps than any other part of the game. I say this simply because people are just so unbelievably bad when they get in a bunker, even though there is more margin of error in the sand than in any other shot on the course (remember, you get to hit it fat on purpose, and you don’t even have to land the club exactly where you aim it).
In this video I go over the set up procedure for the bunker shot in great detail, and trust me, you will do far better if you follow my instructions to the letter, and do it every time you hit one, be it in the practice bunker, on the course in everyday situations, or in competition. After the setup the key is to get the swing to land the club the proper distance from the ball with a fairly full motion. Far too many golfers find themselves stuck in the sand, unable to move, either because they thought they weren’t supposed to or because they are afraid to make a mistake that hits the ball too far. Again, if you watch carefully I will give you everything you need to get the ball out effectively time after time.
