Online Students: Sigurour Oli Jensson (Siggy)

Siggy sends his swings in from Iceland and as you can see there is a golf season there. He wrote a nice note to go along with the swings, so I am going to let you read that instead of me paraphrasing. I think it will be interesting for you to read his comments and then watch the video. After looking at his swings I could really see where he was coming from with his complaints about not being able to hit quality shots. This is another bit of evidence that pivot movement is the key to high level ball striking in most cases. With his loss of compression in transition Siggy’s arms and hands have no room to get in front of the body on the approach to impact, and he can’t effectively lean the club forward on his iron shots or find a good path and release with his driver. So, here are Siggy’s comments:

I hope the videos are good enough (maybe a bit to close). Taken in the north-west of Iceland (Vestfirdir) with a seven iron and a driver.
I started playing golf in the late eighties (born 1974) and played right handed for about ten years. I struggled the whole time but managed to get to a 7.1 hdcp. In this era I went to many teachers here in Iceland (they are surprisingly many) and put a lot of effort in to this, but didn’t get anything out of it. So I made the big change to switch to a left handed swing (I am left handed). It wasn’t easy my back hurt and everything seemed wrong except when I practiced swinging only with my left hand. I stuck to it and my game got better. I’m playing now a 5.1 hdcp but I’m far from being happy with my swing. I do a lot of mirror work with my swing and I can easily put myself in all the “nice” positions in the swing but when I go out and hit a ball it’s all thrown out of the window. I can see that my takeaway is inside and my right knee sticks out in the backswing, I come down on an outside path and raising my body etc. Trying to fix that just seems to bring out other problems.
I could go on about this for a long time but it is just tiring. But don’t get me wrong I love this game and that’s why I stick to it. I just want so much more out of it.
Although I have hit a hole in one with a right handed and a left handed swing, my dream in golf is to hit a GOOD golf shot. As you can see my impact position can never produce a quality shot (it’s a ballooning pull or fade with no backspin) and if I manage to do that everything else will follow.
This is why I come to you.
I’ve been watching your videos and reading your articles for a long time now and I find them just brilliant. For me who has been searching for information about golf everywhere since I started playing (because of my struggling all the time) it is just great. I don’t have to look further.
I have high hopes for this project and I will put a hard work into it. If you can’t fix this, -nobody can.

ps. I am much more used to watch right handed swings than left handed so I most often mirror my swing to right handed when I look at it in my V1 golf software. Could you do that when you make your analysis video?
