“Hi Wayne. Thanks for looking at my swing. I’m having a hard time compressing the ball and shots are high pushes if I don’t time my flip correctly.”

Scott has a great looking swing that is well sequenced, but it runs into trouble in transition when he flexes his knees toward the ball after twisting his hips toward the target. His upper legs get so bent under him that to get his right arm in front of him his hands and arms must move well out away from his body and thus approach impact from an extremely high position. My suggestions are to set up with his balance a bit more out over the ball toward the balls of the feet, and then to create a station with shafts set up as obstacles to encourage him to change his downswing pattern. I would like him to use the short shaft set between the feet and just in front of the knee line to get his right leg to drive more inward and to the left, and a double shaft assembly with a headcover on the end of it set 3 or 4 inches from his hands at address so that his high approach would smack into it. He also needs to keep his head out over the ball throughout the swing, and since there is no way to monitor this with shafts it should be an idea he keeps in his mind and watches for when he films his swing.
