“After watching those more closely, and getting the tip of the week(though that obviously wasn’t new), I decided to make a major change. My thinking is that my right arm tightens so much right before takeaway, that the whole swing becomes compromised right from the beginning. I’m now committed to addressing as “homeplate” and starting the takeaway without the tightening. HUGE difference”!
That was Scott’s comment after receiving his lesson. This is a fascinating lesson because it really highlights what a true, full video analysis is all about. This swing is not that easy to diagnose. Scott is a good player with a lot of clubhead speed, and the issues here are apparent, but fairly complicated. There are those who would say that what I do and the way I approach helping a swing is too “mechanical” or too “technical”, and there are those that say that it’s not technical enough and that the images don’t actually tell the truth. Hey, I like what I do and a lot of people seem to be able to change their swings for the better doing it this way. There is a lot going on here and you actually have to listen intently if you are going to get to the end of it and understand what just happened.
