This is Phil’s second online lesson and when I compare it with the first one he looks like a completely different person. Starting with the down-the-line view we focus on is Phil’s set up where he’s overdone it a bit by getting too bent over and too far from the ball. The takeaway has improved with the wrist not bowing right away and his right hip has gained more depth, which is another nice improvement. From the face-on view the cut away of the right hip is too soon happening at shaft parallel when I’d like to see it start at left arm parallel. The early cut away is helping to cause a shift to towards the target and when that happens the hands have to throw early. I want Phil to start with a more upright posture, closer to the ball, hands higher, knees less bent, butt less back with a feeling of being much taller. Keep the nice takeaway but flare the right arm so it’s not pinched anymore, load over the right leg so we can see head right load a small amount and don’t cut the right hip until left arm parallel, slightly shorter backswing and start forward sooner which should create a bit of lag.
