“Played golf when I was in my teens and early twenties I could putt and chip but was not a great ball striker. Played again between 30 and early 44 was a decent ball striker with driver, 2 iron up to 6 iron; generally not very good from 8 iron range and inwards also could not putt or pitch !! Now I’m 52 and I am playing again. Target is to get to low single figures, better than 5. I live in Kenya currently and have 20 acres of semi-arid land to practice on and a good amount of time available, plus amazing weather.
Forty years playing golf and I really did not know how to cock my wrists I though cocking was hinging my wrist backwards against the forearm….So this is very interesting for me
Would that explain why I’m so hopeless with a 70 yard pitch and a short iron????? Will go for one of the “online lessons” soon.
Excellent site, glad I joined. Enjoying the golf analysis of the great players and feel I’m learning quite a bit.”
Happy golfing

Pretty cool to have a swing come in from Kenya, but that just shows you the power of the internet. It is immediately apparent that Paul’s swing has too much excess movement and that the main focus of the lesson will be to tighten it up, starting with the hip slide to the right that is so evident in the backswing. It is hard to say what will happen after Paul eliminates this flaw as this one item tends to make the whole swing feel and look quite different. By bracing the right leg and foot and staying inside the face on hip box Paul will feel way more wound up, which in turn will probably shorten his swing by making it feel more coiled with the upper moving against a more solid lower. The next item that will have to be addressed is the way Paul lifts his right arm to the top of the swing while pulling it well behind his head. The added stability of his lower will help this, but he is going to have to train the right arm to stay more down and less bent. If he can achieve better structure approaching the top he can start working on sequencing better in the forward swing, and at that point he would be well on his way to a big improvement in his swing.
