If you ever wanted proof that perfect tempo does not make a perfect swing this would be it. I counted Laurent’s tempo at 24/8, a perfect 3/1, and yet his mechanics have a lot of room for improvement. Here is an email Laurent sent along with his swings, and as I mention in the video he does a great job of self -diagnosis:
Hi Wayne
first I want to mention that I loved your site and really enjoy my weekly dose of video golf analysis :) I few word about me :
iam currently around 9hcp and still going down I have been working a lot lately to avoid my head deeping forward on the back swing (very visible on the driver video) and its getting a bit better, iam still unable to keep my hips in the bow as you advocate despite a lot of effort.
things I really don’t like about my swing : – hips not in the box
– arm too much behind in back swing
– leg moving forward on down swing
– impact position (scoopy)
– left leg at impact, I can’t get it to straighten, probably some lack of hip rotation.
any pointer to help fix some of these issue would be great I’ve been working lately on your punch shot drill in an attempt to fix some of these but I hit a lot of shanks when praticing these, again any advise?.
next thing I want to try is that hand out move you describe as mine are clearly going straight down video link :
As you will see, Laurent has a clear picture of what he is doing wrong, and I prescribe a dose of right arm extensor action (a feeling of pushing outward while cocking the wrists), the “hands out” move to keep the right arm from falling even more behind the body, and keeping the hips “in the box” by using the shaft in the ground between the feet to catch the right leg as it drives incorrectly toward the ball. All of this is designed to get the right arm space to drive more in front of the body so that the hands can approach impact in a more forward leaning and less flippy position.
