Here is a swing that I’m guessing is modeled after Ben Hogan’s, with maybe influence also from Mac O’Grady. My suggestions start with the posture, and when I compare it to Hogan’s it is easy to see that Grady is way more hunched over with his weight more toward his heels than the balls of his feet. This has a deleterious effect on his downswing especially, as his legs stay under him and work even more under and to the right, causing his head to back up a considerable amount. I would like Grady to stand up and point the butt of the club at his belt buckle while getting onto the balls of his feet. From there he would have a chance to lower instead of lifting in the backswing, and he would also then be able to stay in the box while keeping his head out over the ball at the same time. The second major suggestion is for him to get some air under his right arm. Many who have tried to swing like Hogan have mistakenly started at address with the elbows locked, and have narrowed and flattened their swings too much by trying to keep the upper right arm pinned to the side. Hogan’s arms were significantly bent at address, and he used his upper trunk to start the swing and carry his arm away from his body going back. He also had plenty of space under that arm at the top in his younger days, and since Grady does not appear to be too old I think it would be a good idea not to restrict that right arm so much by having it glued to his side. With the right arm freed up Grady can then concentrate on getting the hands to work outward toward the ball instead of straight down. With the set up and pivot motion changes Grady can then work on turning the hands down into impact and releasing the club to the left instead of straight out to the target with the face overly square.
