Hey Wayne! I know these aren’t perfect but I wanted to send you my latest swings. I’ve been working really hard on the things you outlined in the last lesson. I have the metronome going in my pocket during the swings. I’ve been working really hard on tempo and on those punch drills you gave me. I’ve been spending a lot of time thinking about how I view impact and trying to change that view of impact in my brain. I’ve also tried to stay more out over the ball through impact. Basically I’m working on everything! How do things look??? Thank you!
As you will see in the video Chuck is another victim of the “hands drop, legs under” pattern that plagues good golfers who struggle with consistent ball striking. Chuck has a real task on his hands because he has to pretty much reverse his natural instincts. His legs need to drive inward and to the left of the target while his hands and arms need to move toward the ball and more in front of him in transition. At the same time, he needs to pay attention to keeping his head out over the ball instead of backing out away from it, another error that is part of the pattern. Putting a stick between the feet to help the legs and hips aim their movement will help, as will a stop and go drill from left arm parallel that will let him focus on just the transition movement. One of the keys will be an effort to exaggerate these feelings and use the camera to see what happens when he tries, because as we know it’s pretty much impossible to tell what’s actually going on without the ability to slow it down. And speaking of slowing down, it serves as another drill to see if you can make a 50% speed swing (or less) and do it right, at which point if you are successful you can try to speed it up.
