Sim has made great strides since his first lesson (this is his 3rd) and I encourage you to watch the previous ones. I focus here only on his face on view as there is a lot to talk about there and his down the line view is quite good and not the real issue. The main problem I see is Sim’s tendency to drift his upper body over his lower in transition instead of using the ground to drive the pelvis with the 3 attributes I talk about all the time, depth, lateral, and rotation. Feeling the stretch in the left side as the lower body initiates the downswing is one of the most important aspects of the swing to look for as it allows the swing to unwind smoothly and with power. As you will see in the video when I compare Sim to Xander Schauffle Sim’s lower body is much more passive in transition, especially in the lower right leg. Xander has one of the best and most efficient transitions on Tour, as he stays behind the ball while making an aggressive lateral movement along with plenty of depth and rotation. I would like Sim to widen his stance a bit, especially with the driver, and kink the right knee inward while twisting it counterclockwise a bit. This should give him the feeling of a nice brace to load over, and I also suggest that he try to maintain his rightward movement in the backswing all the way to the top, at which point he can use the pressure he has built up under the inside of the right foot to drive the pelvis forward and around. As I mention in the video the feeling of “digging” the right side of the pelvis inward as it pushes forward and upward to the left is key, and you can’t do that without an active right leg. Watching Schauffle’s left lat expand in the start of the downswing is evidence of his great sequence (something everyone should shoot for) and would be a huge benefit to Sim.
