Online Lesson: Sam Rottie- Teaching Professional Looking for Swing Guidance

By Wayne | Videos

Hi Wayne,

I like the swing analysis video’s you post on YouTube and need some inspiration for myself… so here to give it a go.

I’m a teaching pro myself who still loves to be competitive. My level is around scratch best score is -4 but i struggle with being consistent, main shot is a draw, curious to see what you make of it.

Cheers Sam

I always enjoy helping professionals with their swing, especially teaching pros who like to compete, as I know that if I can give them something to improve both their knowledge and their technique, they will be better players and teachers. Sam, who hails from Belgium, demonstrates a swing pattern common among talented players who struggle with consistency. If you’ve watched my recent videos, you know that I am a proponent of what I call “over the top from the inside” (OTTFTI), and here we see Sam with the opposite pattern, on in which the hands and right arm fall back in transition and the approach and general direction of the swing is from in to out. Thus, it is not surprising that Sam’s main shot pattern is a draw, as the face must close faster with the hands, wrists, and forearms when the club is approaching overly from the inside and the exit is well out to the right. In the video I will make specific suggestions about mechanics, but the overall message is to round off or flatten the swing to get it more on plane in the backswing and then to match that up with a more outward hand and arm movement in transition and a more on plane approach with a corresponding exit that is more around to the left.
