“After reviewing these videos, I was waffling back and forth about bothering to send them in because, frankly, they only look a little bit different to me. However, with the state am coming up I figured I’d go ahead and get your thoughts. I shot a lifetime-low 67 in my weekend money game with my buddies this past weekend, so obviously I/we must be doing something right. Again…thanks!
Recently I found myself regressing into those dreaded drop-kicks. I took a video and saw that I had gotten back into losing my depth with the lower body. In these videos I am really focusing on that combination of head out over the ball while staying deep with the hips and legs. Unfortunately, we can see both my forehead and my butt still coming off their respective lines, but it’s definitely better than it was a couple weeks ago.
We can also still see a lot of the other persistent stuff that I struggle with. We still see the low-pinched right arm, and, most frustratingly, the immediate throwaway of the club and extremely flippy release. I HAVE spent a good bit of time hitting punch shots over the last month or so, but obviously it hasn’t yet seeped into the full swing.
Finally, I can see the head getting out in front of the ball on the irons again. I’ve been experimenting with shifting my head a little to the right at address to try to combat it but, at least on the irons anyway, it doesn’t seem to be working.
I assume we’re at the point where there’s no more new information and it’s more about refocusing on something. Looking forward to your recommendations as always.
Phil certainly knows what’s going on by now, and he is exactly correct, his old habits are still in there causing problems. For anyone with tendencies to early extend and hump out from under themselves in transition it is death to set up with any appearance of sitting back in the heels. Phil needs to exaggerate the feeling of being up and out over the ball with less knee flex, flare the right arm more in the backswing, and concentrate on creating more tilt in the pelvis in transition.
