Message to Wayne Hi Wayne,
one question I had when looking at the videos is wondering why my weight (hip) shifts to the right after impact. I can never stay in the phone booth sort of speak because my right leg and hip fall outside after impact. Hope that makes sense. not sure it will.
The issue Mark has with his right leg leaving the “box” after impact may appear to be of questionable importance (it’s after impact so what does it matter?) but because things happen so fast in a swing (a total of one second give or take a few hundredths of a second) any particular thing visible later in a swing has been affected by something before it and if a later item is changed you can be sure that something before it will be affected. I put Mark side by side with tour pros Denny McCarthy and Brooks Koepka to illustrate how both drive their right leg and the right side of the pelvis continually toward the left heel which induces a straightening of both the right and left legs between P6 and P8. The feel is to make sure that the pressure that shifts into the left heel in the forward swing continues past impact so that the right foot keeps driving inward and the right side of the pelvis pushes diagonally into the left, driving the left side of the pelvis forward and upward as it twists around, finishing with the left leg deeper and straighter with the right side more pushed inward, giving the player more right side bend through impact with the right shoulder driving down the plane for a longer period of time. I would start working on this by practicing the movement through impact very slowly, as staying deeper with the hips past impact will be more physically new and more difficult to accomplish. Doing it over and over at a fast pace when you haven’t done it before is not a good idea and can lead to some soreness you would rather not have.
