Online Lesson: John Krystynak- Still Working on Takeaway Technique and Right Arm Movement

By Wayne | Videos: Online Students

Working on takeaway of course and trying not to pull back with right shoulder. As that improves, I get a decent number of swings where the club isn’t heavily crossed over.
Coming down, I have a hard time getting club to shallow and these swings are pretty realistic as to what happens on course. Slightly steep, clubhead and shaft over hands and right arm. Flight ends up very slight cut.
All very playable, but still baffling to me as to why I can’t really get the club shallow.

John has improved his takeaway, but it still has enough issues as to be the root cause of his inability to shallow the shaft in transition. We have worked on trying to soften the right arm at address so that it won’t stiffen and force the left arm to roll out and the shoulders to flatten, but as you will see he still tucks it in just before starting the swing. With the shaft off plane flat at P3 and the right arm pinched in front with limited width he then overturns the upper right arm and shoulder blade, pulling the club across the line and pinning his right arm back so that he cannot make the sidearm throwing right arm motion that involves adducting the arm, supinating the right forearm, and externally rotation the right shoulder. The swing has to be seen as a progression of events that moves through positions that can be analyzed statically but it is the motion and how the muscles and joints are acting /reacting in real time that can best focus the player on what to concentrate on the most.
