need help. I see my drifting…a little sloppy on take away and head moving. That’s where I will start today. trying to get lower to slide towards target with my back to target longer. thoughts? hitting it high and short at times.
Jamie and I have been working together for a little over a year now and like many PGA professionals he gets busy in season and has limited time to practice and keep an eye on his swing. Jamie’s issues usually involve his right upper arm getting stuck at the top while his pelvis rotates quickly in transition, which along with a bit of an upper body lean causes his sequence to get out of whack and the shaft to move out onto his left arm in the downswing. With the right shoulder blade retracted and the hips spinning there is no way to initiate the sidearm throwing action we are looking for, where the upper right arm adducts (drives forward and down), the forearm supinates (turns the palm upward) and the shoulder externally rotates, keeping the front of the shoulder more forward. I suggest a more Charlie Hoffman-like backswing, with the forearms rotating the face more gradually open and the left arm moving more across the chest with the left wrist somewhat cupped. From there I think Jamie could feel that his upper trunk responded more quickly when the pelvic rotation affects the ribcage. Unlike most players Jamie needs to feel less separation between the upper and lower, and more of a feeling of everything coming down at the same time. However, this cannot happen unless the right arm and shoulder are better positioned as he gets to the top.
