Frank is 52 and a 3-time National PGA Assistant’s Champion from the Metropolitan Section, arguably the toughest section in the country when it comes to quality of players. Frank is always in the mix at the club pro level, but he was having some ball striking issues and gave me a ring, although we had never worked together in the past. Without a doubt, Frank has an excellent golf swing, and my job is to point out items that in my opinion might be causing some of his inconsistency. The first thing I notice here is Frank’s posture, which I think could be “cleaner” or more “angular”, suggesting that he bend more from the hips, make sure his pressure is toward the balls of his feet, and straighten up his upper back a bit. Being a good player, Frank understands never to overdo posture changes in a way that might fatigue the back. The other major suggestion I had was to address Frank’s tendency to lift his right arm approaching P4, causing what felt to Frank like an over-the-top move. I wanted him to try to firm up the top of the swing by keeping it wider and slightly shorter at the top so that his upper right arm could change direction by coming down and forward immediately in transition instead of running off. Usually this involves firming up the wrists in transition, but Frank will figure out that on his own.
