If you watch this follow up video right after the first lesson with Bill (click here to view) you will see a normal lesson progression like you would get if you were taking face to face lessons once every week or two and working on the teacher’s suggestions in between. Most times the succeeding lesson will be an extension of the prior one, especially if the changes are pattern oriented or if it’s a major change in grip or posture (here it is all about posture). Bill has definitely changed his posture for the better, but his motion pattern has stayed mostly the same but with some incremental improvement as well. Once the major issues have been identified and the student has time to absorb the lesson and try to work some things in, it usually becomes apparent what feelings need to be exaggerated in order to change enough. I would like Bill to continue to work on getting his posture more out over the ball with his knees less under him so that he can keep his left arm more down and across his chest in the backswing with body retaining more forward bend as he goes from P3 to P4. Combined with less pronation of the left arm and forearm should get the shaft more vertical at P3 with the arms deeper, in the hope that the right arm and shoulder would not want to pull back in transition in search of more depth. If the right arm did not pull back, I think the pivot movement pattern of the knees flexing toward the ball could be changed as well, which would put Bill on track to improve his approach to impact and then his release.
