I am trying to go deeper and better with squatting and then coming up — trying to use the ground. It’s got a way to go but that is the idea. I don’t like my right leg as I come up on the toe and would rather roll my ankle thru impact.
As you will see in the video, Erik is spot on pinpointing a major problem in his swing, early extension with the right leg pushing toward the ball and the left leg getting in the way of his rotation. If you are going to try to get into the ground more so you can use more upward force through impact you need to make sure that you are pressuring your right leg in the backswing with the knee retaining most of its flex and the pressure shifting toward the inside of the foot toward the heel. That should deepen the right hip, and at the same time it’s a good idea to keep the left knee from kicking down and inward too much so that the pressure gets out toward the front of the foot. When both sides of the pelvis feel deep the move in transition is to try to deepen even more while reversing direction with the right leg inward toward the left. When the “squat” puts pressure left and deep while the hips are rotating the “jump” off the ground into impact can be up and left, creating right side bend instead of losing posture.
