Nicole plays for Victoria College up in British Columbia, Canada, and since her coach is a website member and uses some of the Wayne D. methods in his own coaching he encouraged Nicole to come and see me while she was down in Florida visiting her parents. David mentioned that he thought Nicole could be more consistent with her irons (who wouldn’t want that) but that the main deficiency in Nicole’s game was distance. I saw right away with the combination of her swing trigger and right arm movement that she was not efficiently utilizing her pivot to produce the loading and stretching in the backswing that could potentially lead to greater clubhead speed. My goal was to quiet down the start of the swing so that she didn’t move as far down and to the right by the time she got to P2, and instead try to stay taller initially and rotate the upper trunk more on the spine angle with the left shoulder feeling more under the chin and the right arm keeping space away from the side while the upper arm and shoulder went more upward with the turn. This combination would help her coil her upper trunk against the lower more effectively and put her into position to work on shallowing the club at the start of the forward swing by adducting and externally rotating the upper right arm and elbow in transition instead of the opposite. All of this should encourage her lower body to rotate out of the way faster, another big item when trying to create more speed through impact.
