Lesson of the Week: Justin Duffie Part 7

By Wayne | Videos: Lesson of the Week

Justin is back after a year and half hiatus from lessons. You may recall that Justin, through tons of hard work, changed his swing about as much as anyone I’ve ever worked with. Being a great athlete, however, has its downside, as Justin is extremely hard on himself, and when he hit a plateau that involved too many poor rounds along with his better play he just couldn’t take it anymore and stopped trying to mess with his swing. Justin is a member at Dye Preserve in Jupiter, Florida as well as Old Memorial in Tampa, where he can play with some great players, including quite a few Tour players. He can shoot par golf but can also shoot 85 in a heartbeat, and still feels like there is a seriously good player in there somewhere. The one thing that has been bugging him the most as of late is the shortness of his swing, which, although he is a very big guy, has nothing to do with any lack of flexibility. I can see right away that his closed face takeaway is seriously jamming his right arm and shoulder, and when I show him how by rolling and cupping the left hand and wrist and rotating the forearms that his right arm is completely freed up getting to the top, his swing makes an instant and remarkable change for the better. If we can get this to happen on the golf course Justin will be a force to reckon with.
