Lesson of the Week: John Lamendola

By Wayne | Videos: Lesson of the Week

If you have watched any of my other online lessons with John, you know that our main goal is to get his hands and arms to stop dropping behind him in transition. John is a good player and has every tool imaginable available to him in his house, and has been working with me for about 8 months, so you can see just how difficult this type of pattern is to change. This video is a great example of the subtleties of body movement involved in the golf swing and how the only way to discern why things move the way they do is to slow the swing down and study it. It is also a reminder that real change can only be seen when the swing is put up side by side with a previous swing. When the player is introduced to new concepts or new ideas as to how to move, the only way to tell what the ideas have caused to happen is to tape it and watch it. This also holds true when the player is practicing on his or her own. Everyone has ideas while they practice: the brain is constantly working. The video camera simply helps you not waste time guessing what is happening. It will be up to me, as the experienced instructor, to figure out what will get John to achieve the technique goals that he is striving for. I am almost positive that if we can get the backswing deeper (while keeping the right upper arm high enough and wide enough) that he won’t want to pull his left arm more behind him in transition. We are making progress and it won’t be long before we have this problem licked and can move on to other items.
