Lesson of the Week: John Krystynak- Backswing and Sequence Work

By Wayne | Videos: Lesson of the Week

John started with me online back in 2015, sent swings a few times that year and in 2016 and 17, then came down to Florida for a face to face in February of 2018. He returned a couple weeks ago for another look, and as usual we found ourselves working on the same issues. I’d like to see John use his entire upper body to get the swing started instead of just his hands, and when he does, I want him to stretch the backswing out much wider so that the upper right arm and shoulder don’t pull back behind him at the top. In the video you will see how much better he does with a stop and go drill, as this gives him a chance to slow down his backswing so he can make sure not to trigger with the arms tightening and his hands rolling the grip out away from him as the clubhead cuts inside, followed by the stop at the top, which gives him a chance to feel the extra width he gains by stretching the left arm and shoulder while keeping his hands moving away from his head and his right arm more passively in front of him. From the stopped top of the swing position he can then start forward with his lower body leading, eliminating the upper body lean caused by the overuse of the right shoulder finishing the backswing.
