Frank has come a long way in a few months of lessons (around 15 hours), especially since he almost never has a chance to practice. He does play a few times a week, however, usually with business clients at great golf courses such as Deepdale and Maidstone on Long Island. In this video I contrast Frank’s first swings with his latest, and while his signature issues remain the same he has made some headway in creating a more controlled backswing, which has made his ball striking more consistent. What is particularly exciting in this video are the stop and go swings we end with, which are by themselves difficult to accomplish with good form. Frank has been seeing my M.A.T guy to have his upper trunk and left shoulder worked on, and you can see that it has made a difference in his ability to widen his swing. Frank has never had his right arm in position at the end of the backswing to move back in front of him in the forward swing, and thus his hands have always had to throw the clubhead at the ball to square the face. Our next goal will be to try to get the feeling of clubhead lag so that his P6 position can be more forward and P7 more forward leaning. This will require more specific impact work, which we have touched on but haven’t yet concentrated on due to the difficulty in getting his right upper arm not to pull behind him at the top of the swing. But if he can incorporate what he is doing in these stop and go swings into his full swing motion we can move into attaining a much better impact position.
