Brian is a long hitter who lacks control and whose wedge game is poor. We start with the wedge, and immediately I see that with his setup, grip, and clubface at address he has little chance to flight a consistent short shot of any distance. I suggest weakening his grip and moving the ball position to the middle of the stance or just forward of middle rather than well back off the right foot. Along with the more neutral grip I have him square the clubface at address, as he has been setting it closed. The changes work wonders and instead of taking massive divots he starts clipping the ball with an effective angle of attack. Brian also has overly active legs, especially the left leg, in all his swings. It is easy to reduce with the short shots but needs more focus when we get to the driver. I want him to feel like the lower body responds to the upper in the backswing, and that the hips turn after the upper trunk initiates the swing.
