Lesson of the Week: Blake Greenberg- Learning to Load Right, Stay Behind the Ball, and Get the Hands Forward at Impact with the Hips Clearing

By Wayne | Videos: Lesson of the Week

As the title suggests, we had a lot to work on when Blake first showed up in May. He couldn’t make decent contact with the driver and was hitting it all over the place as well, and his iron contact was not good at all. We started with the driver, and by staying behind the ball better with the hips deeper he was able to start hitting the ball in the face and having it go where he could find it. We then got into the irons, and have worked hard on having the hands more forward at impact to compress the ball better. This again has everything to do with not leaning toward the target in transition, which he has gotten much better at, but he could help himself even more by loading a bit to the right with the upper body in the backswing, which has turned out to be a difficult task but one we will keep after. In addition, we must get better at adding depth with the right hip in the backswing so that he can have space to maintain for his arms to get more in front of him in the forward swing and so the left side of the pelvis can clear faster instead of sliding too forward. Overall, we have made great progress in a relatively short time and it is exciting to see how much more we can accomplish.
