This lesson is actually a compilation of three short lessons. The first part Peter has freed up his leg movement in the backswing which I like but his head is a bit left of center and the forward hip drive is a bit too forward and not enough around. The next section the face-on view is looking really nice. The down-the-line view is looking good too but we can see that the legs are slow to open and the slow rotation is causing a stuck approach. Pete has got to open up and stay deeper. The third section is a stop-and-go and Peter is a bit vertical in the backswing in the down-the-line view but I like how he’s progressing. I’m seeing his arms a bit more relaxed at address, more width in the takeaway, lots of good stuff but the hands drop in transition. Peter is making good progress overall. Peter’s Commentary:
My hardest hurdle was timing the “getting deep and rotating” on downswing. I needed to spend the majority of my time practicing swinging slowly to feel the lowering so I could rotate the hips to get club back in front.
I still work on this move to this day. What also helps is rehearsing it in a mirror with and without a club.
If anyone of you is a perfectionist like me, one piece of advice to help you avoid the pitfalls I fell into: Before each tournament whether its your club championship or a tour event…. focus more on your short game (pitching, chipping & putting) and go with what you have that day!
See it, feel it and trust it!
