Derek was playing the mini-tours a couple years ago when he found me down in Florida, and we worked a few times to try to improve his ball striking, which was pretty good but not good enough to shoot the kinds of scores needed to make money playing. After this is posted I expect Derek to post on the forum what he has done to accomplish such major changes.

I am particularly proud of this video/lesson as it took an already very good swing and made it better. In fact, I would have to say that this is one of the best swings I have worked with. By the time Derek left to head up to the Traveler’s 4-spot qualifier (in which, by the way, he shot 64 to lead the qualifiers by 2 shots) I was shaking my head at how good this swing looked.

I have high hopes for Derek. He has simple, powerful and efficient swing that needed a few tweaks when he first came to see me and now is really rounding into shape. Our first item in this 2- day session was to get the posture more up on the balls of the feet with the pelvis tilted a bit more. From there we wanted to quiet down his trigger movement, which was too much of a bounce and sit back thing with his pelvis getting more level right off the bat. This allows him to get the right hip deeper without having it sit under him.

Kevin is an excellent player (two years on Tour, 6 wins on the secondary [Nationwide, Web.com] tours) but at age 48 he has kind of hit the wall and can’t seem to hit the ball as well as he used to. The first thing I noticed was that Kevin was not really using his pivot nearly enough, and we spent the first session just trying to feel what a real coil and load felt like.

It took me a while to write the copy for this one so Jeremy has already come for another lesson after this one, but the good news here is that he has been playing consistently better, making cuts and making money in the mini-tour events he has been entering. Jeremy has developed an excellent swing, but here we see some recurring tendencies that we need to get a handle on so that we don’t have to keep fixing the same things.

Derek came back this week for another couple days and the progress was quite apparent. By the end of the second session he was swinging beautifully, and watching him strike the ball was quite impressive. He is not very big but he is powerful and the speed he produces through impact is surprising. As you will see he has an excellent swing, and I fully expect big things from him in the near future.

Derek came to me in December feeling down about his playing prospects and hoping I could help him get back on track. He is 37 and has had some very good years on the Canadian Tour, finishing in the top few money winners back when there was no exemption offered for doing so. More recently he has struggled, and he decided to make the trip down from Toronto as sort of a last ditch effort.
