He was not making very good contact with his irons, and as I watched him warm up and hit a few there were both fat ones and very thin ones, while the ones he hit more solidly had some good quality to them.

He has one of few best records of any club professional in history, having won the National Championship, played in 10 PGAs, 7 Senior PGAs, I think 5 U.S. Opens, and has won numerous titles in the always tough competition of the Met Section in New York.

This lesson is a good example of what can happen when a talented player tries to make a change but doesn’t quite get it right, which then leads to other changes which may not be so good. My suggestion to Taylor and her dad Alex was to have Taylor start her swing with her upper trunk instead of her hands and wrists.

[Premium] This is another classic example of a steep to flat transition that gets the right arm behind the right side and causes a weak impact. It is also a classic example of a tight right arm that stays tucked to the body in the backswing, causing the left arm to initiate the swing, giving it minimal width and early upper trunk coil.

[Premium] Looking at Mark’s swing we again see the classic swing pattern where the legs push to the right in transition while the upper right arm moves backwards behind the right side. As usual, the setup plays a big role in producing this unwanted swing shape.
