Day 2 at Emerald Dunes: Wayne D’s Swing (with video)

By Wayne | blog

It is always a test to play in a heavy wind. Today it was blowing 15-25 mph, and that means that no shot can be taken for granted. Every shot has to be struck well in order to end up well, from the drive with water left and a hard left to right crosswind, to 130 yard shot into the wind that would usually be a nice pitching wedge but now turns into a knockdown 8 iron, if not a punch 7. Anything with too much side spin will float out of control, and too much backspin into the wind…

The Emerald Dunes Invitational

By Wayne | blog

It’s the first time in quite a while that I have felt good about a tournament. I haven’t played well for more than 3 years, and I finally feel like I can turn the corner and become a good player again. Why is this? A lot of it is my body. My back guy is doing some different things that seem to be working, and I am able to incorporate more of the stuff I am teaching in my own swing. So, part of it is my ability to execute, and part of it is what I am trying to…

Let’s See How Gary Woodland Does With Butch

By Wayne | blog

I was reading GolfWeek and I ran across a blurb about Gary Woodland, who is now working with Butch Harmon. Woodland stated that he is struggling with the things they are working on, especially the idea of “swinging down the line” as opposed to swinging left, which Woodland states that he has “always done”. I find that highly interesting in a couple of ways: first, I was under the impression that Butch really doesn’t try to change much in the players he works with. Most of them are great anyway and don’t need much help. I’ve viewed his work as…

Why I Keep Playing

By Wayne | blog

So I’ve just made triple on my 16th hole, another tough par-3 at Isleworth CC (yes, home of the fire hydrant), and I’m wondering to myself, why do I subject myself to this? Isleworth is an incredibly demanding course: the shot values are high all over the course, almost without letup. When the wind blows the difficulty increases. When it’s chilly as well, well, you can imagine. Its 7069 yards of torture, with tight fairways, deep bunkers in the fairway and around the greens, fast, firm, roly-poly greens replete with crowns, moguls, and false fronts. There are a number of…

By Wayne | blog

Friday is the day I attend the PGA show. Saturday morning I’m going down to play Jupiter Hills with one of the club site members, Jimmy Farina. Sunday I’m back in Orland for the Isleworth Invitational, a two-man team event where I play with a member of Woodmont. Anyway, I’ll let you know how I play next week.

Good Stuff Coming

By Wayne | blog

I wanted everyone to know that I just got back from 4 days at the fabulous Colusa Pines Golf Club in Fort Myers, Florida where I worked with my old friend and Champions Tour exempt player Gary Hallberg. I’m going to be doing a couple of videos on Gary’s swing and on the work we did, and they should be up soon. Gary has fabulous action and I think you’ll enjoy the vids.
