Anthony Kim: Remembering one of Golf’s Greatest Swings

By Wayne | Videos: Swing Analysis

Anthony Kim had a great start to his career, playing on the Walker Cup, President’s Cup and Ryder Cup teams and winning 3 times before his 26th birthday. He was derailed by injuries and after withdrawing from his last Tour event in 2012 hasn’t hit a shot on Tour since, which is certainly a shame since he was a dynamic figure in the game and had one of the best swings you will ever see anywhere in any era. Here I run through the swings I compiled back in 2008, 2009 and 2010, and then discuss some of the things that I like to point out to students as model positions and movements to emulate. Kim’s swing is perhaps more Hogan like than anyone, and his wider right arm approach appears to be closer to Hogan’s later (after his “retirement” in 1955) swings than in his major winning days when his upper right arm drove much further in front of his chest in the forward swing. Just about everything in Kim’s action is exemplary, from the perfectly on plane takeaway to the deep hip action. (Download links below video)
