Lucas Glover has always been an excellent ball striker. The former U.S. Open champion has struggled with his putting for a decade, but in the last month has discovered not only a fix, but a method that now puts him at the top of the putting stats, which, along with his long game, has led him to two straight wins on the PGA Tour and has moved him from 146th to 3rd in the Fed Ex Cup standings. If he doesn’t run out of gas, I can see him winning the whole thing, although that would seem like a fairy tale considering where he is coming from. This video focuses on his golf swing, which is highly efficient and produces ball compression better than just about anyone in the world. His stats tell the tale: #1 in strokes gained proximity to the hole, and #1 in strokes gained in proximity to the fairway. In other words, he is the #1 ball striker on the Tour now. Glover’s swing is notable for its short length, its “hard catch” in transition, and the use of left wrist flexion to produce a penetrating, mostly right to left ball flight. Glover is working his pressures into the ground right from the beginning of the swing, getting all his lowering in the backswing then maintaining his height and posture in the forward swing and through impact. He even forward leans his driver, leading to bullet draws that rarely miss the fairway.
