Lesson of the Week: Steve Rogers- Using the Wayne D Elite Senior Swing Ideas

By Wayne | The Senior Swing

Steve is an excellent player (you can see that by his swing) and has qualified for multiple U.S. Senior Amateurs. He has been a student of mine for over 5 years, although I only see him a couple times a year as he lives in Kentucky and his Florida residence is on the other side of the state. He has suffered from many of the types of injuries that we all do as we get older (he is 62, same as me) and has lost some mobility. His main issue has always been a lack of rotation in his lower body causes by the direction of his lateral movement, which heads too far to the right and sags his knees under him. The result is that his right side is never forward enough at impact, even though his hands are up to the ball, and he tends to hit behind the ball way too often, a maddening thing for a good player. I always have Steve doing split hand punch shot drills, but this time I thought I would give him the technique I have worked out for myself, as I have some of his same issues. You will see how opening the stance and internally rotating the right foot and leg at address while standing more erect work out great for him.
