I have been teaching Clayton since he was about 14 years old, about 9 years now. He won numerous junior tournaments and played in two U.S. Amateurs as a teenager. He pretty much wasted his college career (he did win the Cardinal Amateur a few years back during the summer) but is now a professional and playing the Hooters Tour, where he has made a bit more than 50 % of his cuts and has been in the hunt a few times. He had his best result to date a few weeks back when he won the Pennsylvania Open by 3 shots.
One of the more amazing things about Clayton (other than his gorgeous swing) is that he has suddenly become incredibly long for his size. At 5’10” he is not the biggest cat on the block but trust me when I say that he can flat bust it out there. He regularly hits it 310-330 off the tee with a fade, and has full iron distances of 150 with the wedge, 165- 9, 180- 8, 195- 7, 210- 6, 225-5, 235-4, 250- 3 hybrid, 280- 3 wood. With these obscene yardages it was a no-brainer for me to focus in on hitting knock-down or cut-off iron shots, as his prodigious distance allows him to dial down and increase his accuracy where most players are whacking full shots.
Another really cool thing about the video is watching the swings I pulled from the tape archives of Clayton when he was 15, back in 2005. The swing pattern and rhythm are essentially the same, while the details of the swing have improved along with the manning up of his body. I think Clayton has a great chance to make a living playing golf and I look forward to keeping the website members apprised of his continuing education as a professional.
