Basement Tapes: Wayne D. Working on the the Pivot Compression Golf Swing

By Wayne | Videos: Basement Tapes

I’m down in the basement for this video, demonstrating what I have been working on as I try to get my game back in order after 7 years of mediocre to poor play. It has been 10 months since my back surgery and I have been working out every day trying to strengthen the muscles that have been mostly unused for ages. The doctor said that I could continue to improve for up to 2 years (which is nice) but even now I feel way better than I did at any time since 2008. The main thing that is helping me is that I now have the ability to at least feel some separation between my upper and lower torsos, which of course is the key to proper sequencing of the swing. Suffice it to say that without the correct pivot movement and sequence all the swing theories in the world aren’t going to help you hit the ball with any quality or consistency. If you’re wondering why Tiger is struggling, I would say now that with two back surgeries it will take him some time to regain the precise timing he had in the past. Now that I can feel the correct movement on some swings it is obvious why the bad shots occur. I can feel right away that I don’t finish the backswing and I don’t start forward from the ground up, which means that I am out of sequence and unable to put a good strike on the ball, especially with the driver. The more I can practice and focus on using my pivot the better I am starting to feel about possibly regaining my old form. It will be fun to try, and with luck (and a lot of working out) my back will hold up and I can start enjoying some good golf again.
