This is another excellent golf swing that to the eye looks like it needs no tweaking. But since the idea is to get better every day, when David comes to see me we film it, slow it down, and pick at to find things to improve. After watching his first batch of swings I decided that David could use the ground better by loading his right leg more in the backswing. The increased movement of upper leg into a deeper position not only will offer him more space in the downswing but will give him a better base to thrust diagonally to the left in transition. In the first face on swing David moves his hips slightly out of the box, and then recovers with only a net gain of a couple inches of movement laterally to the left of the box. We really would like about 4-5 inches of movement by the time the left arm gets to about 45 degrees to the ground, and by flexing into the right leg he will feel like he can thrust better off the inside of his right foot. David loves the concept of sidearm throwing, and coming from a swing that dropped the hands straight down he is experiencing a new feeling in his right arm now that it’s freed from behind his right side. Adding depth in the backswing (while being careful not to pull the hands and arms too far inward at the same time) gives him more space to get that arm in front of him where he can really dig in for the throw. And as you will see in the side by side of the first and last swings the loading action in the right leg enables him to add the lateral movement that we were looking for. This is truly a high quality swing that should produce some nice results.
