Scott is a former online lesson taker who decided to fly from Dallas to Maryland to spend two days with me at Lakewood. The notes you see following this paragraph are Scott’s observations he wrote down during and after the lessons. You may be wondering why there are so many things listed, and whether or not that constitutes overkill and the dreaded “thinking too much” malady, but remember that we spent 2 full days, about 12-13 hours, hitting balls and playing a bit. Scott had the time to pick my brain about every part of the swing, and while he can’t work on it all at once, I thought it was smart of him to get my ideas on a variety of swing topics so that when he decides to focus on any one or on any combination of them he will have a good idea as to the technique involved and how it relates to his overall swing pattern and tendencies. Scott has a chance over the next two years to travel and play competitive golf, and he knows that he must improve along the way if he is to be successful.

The progress is slower than expected, but late today I saw significant gains. My main problem is work has swamped me since I returned. It should ease up after this Friday and I can get back to grinding away. I hope to send you an updated swing next week.
In summary, in order:
1. Grip change—getting more comfortable.
2. Moved ball up in stance.
3. Need to keep the right arm softer especially at start of the takeaway.
***4. Remove excess wrist cock—getting better.
5. Right load app. one half a head. (This will be returned during the downswing, but I must keep the head in the box.)
6. Increase angle in belt line/right hip.

7. Push off right foot while driving back left 45 degrees (left leg straightens, it doesn’t buckle underneath).
***8. As I feel the pull from the left I squeeze the arms together. The right arm MUST get out if front, bent the opposite way from what I’ve always done. Before/as this happens I need to have a good catch to shallow the shaft.
9. The hips snap hard at the bottom—getting better, getting longer.
10. The force of the swing should straighten the arms better during the follow through.
I play in a one day deal tomorrow. If I do any good I’ll let you know.”
