Wayne D Swing Analysis: Working on Getting Rid of my Throw Release

By Wayne D | Videos

It has been a year and a half since I had the two discs above my previous (1986) two level fusion fused (that makes four for the math impaired) and I am getting closer to being able to compete again against senior club professionals. I have come to terms with not being able to wind up in the backswing like I might wish to, but my takeaway is now consistently good, and my hip depth has improved as well. My OTTFTI transition is also doing what I would like it to, and while I still would like to have my left knee out of the way sooner (closer to P 5 than P5.5) the clubhead is on my hands at P6 from DTL, and the grip end is right up to the ball at P6 from FO. My release, as you will see, is a different matter, and continues to look thrown, exiting too far out to the right with the face flipping over. After viewing the first batch of swings I make a concerted effort to supinate the left forearm and add extension to the left wrist approaching impact with the feel of swinging more aggressively to the left after impact. To ingrain the feeling, I do a pump drill where I rehearse the approach to impact multiple times, then strike the ball while staying in motion. The results are exactly what I am looking for, and I can’t wait to put the thoughts into action with more reps on the range and on the course.
