I’ve been working with Matt since he was in college in 2017, and he has come along nicely, earning status on the Canadian Tour (he is from Canada), although finishing 71st on the money list this past year wasn’t good enough to avoid Canadian Q-School. As you will see in the video Matt’s swing can vary from month to month, and his tendency is to revert to the things we work on the most, namely leaning left in the takeaway and crossing the line at the top, issues which eventually lead to his getting the club behind him on the approach and exiting out to the right. Matt would love to hit a small fade, but this becomes difficult when the club approaches from the inside, and he would rather not have to aim far left to hit a push fade. If you look back at some of Matt’s lessons on the website you will see a reprise of the advice I offer here: try to move to the right in the takeaway so you can move forward in transition and through impact, and try to keep the club on plane and pointing left at the top so you don’t have the problem of having to flatten the club late in the downswing. Matt can at times do anything I suggest as you will see in his previous swings, and now it is just a matter of getting the swing to consistently hit these important spots and groove it.
