I can’t tell you how cool it was to meet Tom after working with him on line for a few months. I was visiting my good friend Mark Diamond at Liberty National on my way to Ridgewood and the Barclays to work with Streelman when Tom asked if he could meet me there on Monday morning. Tom had been in Endicott for the Champions Tour event and drove down Sunday night. We had a great 4 hours together in which we worked on increasing the “catch” in Tom’s swing and trying to get the feel for that move to help…

In this video we see Tom make the change from steepening his club in transition to shallowing it. If anyone was wondering if changing was only hard for the untalented the fact that this is video number 4 should dissuade you from that opinion. This is another in the fascinating series of lessons with Hall of Famer Tom Kite. He sent these swings in from the range after the first round of the 3M Championship in Minnesota, along with another fabulous look at his swing from 1992. The two things I picked out this time are the angle of the shaft at left arm parallel in the backswing, and the aggressive thrust and rotation of the hips through impact. Tom’s club is now flatter at left arm parallel than in ’92, and my thought is that the pattern of moving the shaft from flat…

I was extremely happy when I saw the swings that Tom sent of himself back in 1992. As you will see, he was doing almost exactly what I prescribed in his first online session last week, which is great news because it is much easier to get back to something you used to do (although never really easy) than it is to create all new neural pathways and change into something you’ve never done.
