This is Tiger in 2001 so it is a glimpse of one of the three greatest players ever to play the game in his prime. The differences in swing and appearance are huge. Once again the fact that I was playing in the tournament (I qualified by winning the 2001 National Club Pro) allowed me to sneak around the range and course with my camera. You won’t see this stuff anywhere else.

Yes, that’s right all you golfing pundits: Tiger’s head is dropping as much as it ever has. The only difference is that he has evened out the amount between the backswing and the downswing. So please, don’t say that he is not dipping or dropping or squatting or lowering as much now, because he is. The proof is in the swing.

In this video I go over a couple of Tiger’s iron swings and a 3 wood swing from this past week’s Tour event in Virginia. It was Tiger’s best tournament in a while with 3 rounds in the 60’s, marred only by a 3 over 74 in the 3rd round.

In this vid we see Peter Kostis do a nice piece on Tiger’s tempo change from the range to the golf course with a synched up side by side. It shows clearly that on the course Tiger swings faster and lowers more. I’m thinking that would be the norm for most players, as the range is for “warming up” and a player is not necessarily going full bore on each swing like he is on the course.

I’ve tried to avoid doing as many of this type of video (although I know everybody on the website enjoys them) because we are trying primarily to focus on making people better golfers, not on dwelling on ridiculous commentary from the TV guys. Let’s get this straight right off: Tiger Woods has a great golf swing. Now, does it do everything that I prefer? No, but then again I’m not teaching him, so no big deal there. The things I suggest here are combination of my own swing preferences with things I think have worked for Tiger in the past.
