I use Jordan Spieth and Charl Schwartzel as examples of players who are moderate in physical size but produce tremendous clubhead speed. In both cases we see the upper body begin to back up around P5, with the left leg beginning to push up off the ground and the pelvis elevating from P6 into and past impact. Swing Comparison: Danny Willett and Jordan Spieth

I couldn’t resist doing this comparison as the two are hitting the same shot on the same hole with the same fixed camera from almost the exact same spot. They both hit incredible pressure iron shots, with Spieth going pretty much right at the flag and Willett favoring a bit more of a right to left trajectory. As with any comparison there are similarities (which we could all take note of and try to emulate as these are two of the best on the planet) and some striking differences. I always find these examinations to be interesting and educational. Enjoy.

I have done Jordan’s swing before, but as he is kicking everyone’s butt nowadays I figured I’d take another look. I tried to imitate his positions in the mirror in my basement and found it impossible. Now, I’m not the most limber and mobile guy with all the problems I’ve had with my back, but I can still move around pretty good and most swings I can imitate fairly closely.

Swing Analysis: Wedge Play with Jordan Spieth, Patrick Reed and Brooks Koepka

This video should help dispel some faulty ideas about pitching, specifically about using the bounce versus forward leaning the club into impact. If you listen to the TV announcers there seems to be an inclination to suggest that all pitch shots “use the bounce”, but I think you will see here that that is not the case. Before we get to that aspect let’s just be sure to note that all these players make full use of their pivot in order to properly sequence the swing and to get the body to lead the hands and arms into the shot.
